Brian G Sims is an independent consultant with more than 34 years of experience in Tropical Agriculture; Agricultural Engineering; Agricultural Economics. Formerly, I was Leader of the International Development Group, at Silsoe Research Institute (SRI) in the UK where I provided advice on the identification, formulation, appraisal, management, and evaluation of agricultural development programs to governments, NGOs and to the UK Department for International Development (DFID), amongst others. My career has focused on the development of small holder farming-systems, utilising on-farm participatory research methodology and small-scale approaches to farm mechanisation. My developing country experience includes fourteen years in the Latin America and Caribbean Region and three years in Africa. During this period I worked mainly on agricultural sector development projects and led multi-institutional and multi-disciplinary on-farm research programs into natural resources management for the inter-Andean valleys of South America and in Mexico and Central America. I currently work as a consultant for FAO.
